Web Design
Client Product Stewardship Institute,
Inc.
Problem:
The Product Stewardship Institute
(PSI), based in Boston, Massachusetts,
works with manufacturers, retailers,
environmental groups, federal
agencies, and other stakeholders
to reduce the health and environmental
impacts of consumer products.
Since PSI serves as a nationwide
clearinghouse of information,
their web site needed to be
highly functional and robust
– capable of providing
interested parties with up-to-the-minute
information and state-of-the-art
functionality.
Solution:
To address PSI's needs –
some of which included the constant
need to update content, the
ability to limit access to certain
information, and the ability
to find information quickly
– our web site designers
proposed various solutions.
A Content
Management System (CMS) was
proposed to handle PSI's changing
content. Built from the
ground up, this CMS would give
PSI the power and freedom to
make updates, add to their web
site, delete old information,
and much more.
The CMS also
would incorporate a feature
that would allow PSI to protect
sensitive information as needed.
A content-managed database of
registered users would allow
our client to add users, assign
passwords, and designate who
has access to what information.
Finally, to
allow visitors to find information
quickly, our web site designers
proposed that a search function
be added, along with jump menus
and drop-down menus –
all in an effort to create an
intuitive navigation system.
Results:
The PSI web site, designed with
form and function in mind, is
constantly evolving. The
Content Management System, which
will be implemented soon, will
streamline PSI's content updating
process. Also soon to
be implemented is a calendar
and list serve database.
Partially due
to our expertise, the Product
Stewardship Institute has grown
from a small Massachusetts organization
into a nationally recognized
leader and an invaluable resource
in the product stewardship field.
